Win Willy out of Kentucky Derby 135

Trainer Mac Robertson has declared Win Willy out of contention for Kentucky Derby 135 as of Wednesday morning, the day that entries for the race are finalized, due to a line that has appeared on an x-ray of the colt’s left front ankle.

Robertson, citing that the line “may or may not be a problem,” states that Win Willy will be given 30 days off. Robertson maintains that he is not disappointed at not making the Derby field because “the horse is more important.” The trainer had the x-rays taken on the possibility that there was a problem brewing.

Win Willy, by Derby winner Monarchos and purchased for $25,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale, had his final 5f workout on Monday in 1:02 2/5.
