Chris Baker, farm manager of Edward Evans’ Spring Hill Farm made a statement this morning that Quality Road is out of this weekend’s Kentucky Derby due to nagging issues with a quarter crack in his right front hoof. This is the second quarter crack that Quality Road has suffered in the past few weeks, and sources indicate that the colt is still tender on the foot, rendering him unable to post a workout this morning.
“Jimmy (Jerkens) wasn’t comfortable breezing him, and without a work, he can’t go,” Baker said. “He’s not going to make the race.”
The son of Elusive Quality had retained the services of jockey John Velasquez, who will now be riding WinStar Farm’s Mr. Hot Stuff.
