My sincere congratulations to the connections of Big Brown, who is now officially a Super Horse (or something along those lines).
My deepest condolences to Rick Porter, Larry Jones, and everyone connected with Eight Belles, who ran such a gallant race to come in second, well ahead of all of those colts. Her heart and her will to win were stronger than her body. R.I.P. sweet filly.

I just watched the 134th Derby and it was the first time I had even heard of Eight Belles, but I was captivated with her size and easy movement. I watched her just “cruise” in the backstretch and felt that, had she not had such a terrible outcome, she might have left ALL the colts in the dust to win it! That said, I really love horses, but despise horse racing for running the youngsters at 2 and 3 years old, long before they’re fully developed and capable of taking the pounding of running at such speeds and on various (not all good) surfaces. It’s all about money and fame, isn’t it? Well, Eight Belles ran her heart out for her owners and I think they should have given her more of a chance to be saved, even though she wouldn’t have had the potential earnings of a breeding stallion. You were the BEST, Eight Belles! You deserved BETTER!

To every compassionate person who expresses sympathy at the loss of the Great Eight Belles, please know that she died doing what she truly loved. She gave the race here on Earth to Big Brown, because, I believe she was chosen to join Barbaro, and all the beautiful animals who have gone before, to run free, and at the wire, where it really counts, she caught up with Barbaro, please say special prayers and in the still of your heart, if you listen softly, you will hear Eight Belles laughter, and feel her peace. Godspeed Eight Belles, Godbless………..
