Behindatthebar is officially out of the Kentucky Derby, which opens up a spot for Denis of Cork (who worked a fantastic-looking 4f in 47.76 under jockey Calvin Borel this morning at Churchill Downs). Denis of Cork, who won the Southwest Stakes by 2 1/4 lengths, is coming into the race off a loss in the Illinois Derby and will likely be one of the longer shots heading into the race.

Garrett Gomez (who chose Court Vision over Colonel John and Z Fortune), Javier Castellano (who got the mount on Big Truck when Eibar Coa chose Tale of Ekati), John Velazquez (Cowboy Cal’s rider), and Kent Desormeaux (who chose Big Brown over Cool Coal Man) held a really interesting discussion with Thoroughbred Times regarding the process of selecting or acquiring a Kentucky Derby mount.
